Welcome to my web page. I built the whole thing myself on a computer at the library in Lake Winnipesaukee, which is a real place I went to once and never fully left in a spiritual sense.

I made this page because of a problem. Not one of my regular problems. A new one.

There is a movie about me. It came out in 1991. You cannot buy it on Blu-ray.

You cannot buy it on 4K either. You can buy a DVD. A DVD is 480 lines. My television has 2,160 lines. That means 1,680 lines of me are missing and I do not know where they went and I have been thinking about it since Tuesday.

☛ SELF-ASSESSMENT (check the ones that apply to you)

I have searched for this movie on Blu-ray more than once.
I found a suspicious disc online with a printed paper cover and I thought about it for a while.
I own a 4K player and there is nothing to put in it that has Bill Murray yelling on a boat.
I have explained the phrase "baby steps" to someone at work this year.
I do not trust streaming services to keep anything.
I have said "don't hassle me, I'm local" out loud in a town I do not live in.
It bothers me that a 35mm negative is sitting in a vault unscanned.
I would buy this the day it came out without checking the price.

☛ What is wrong (a partial list)

Dr. Marvin says I should write things down instead of calling him at his vacation house. So.

THE FEAR	WHY
FEAR 1	The movie exists only as a stream. Streams get removed. I have seen a stream get removed. I did not recover quickly.
FEAR 2	The DVD was made for televisions with tubes in them. On a big screen it looks like someone smeared Vaseline on the lake.
FEAR 3	Michael Ballhaus shot this movie. He also shot GoodFellas. His work is being squeezed through a wi-fi signal and nobody is upset about this except me.
FEAR 4	Nobody has ever scanned the original negative in 4K. It is sitting in a vault in the dark. Alone. In a vault. Alone in the dark. Excuse me one second.
FEAR 5	What if I want to watch it, and I can't, and the disc doesn't exist, and my bladder explodes.

NOTE FROM BOB: Fear 5 is a normal fear. Dr. Marvin says it is not. Dr. Marvin also once tried Death Therapy on me, so we are going to call that one a draw.

☛ THE FACTS (I looked these up at the library!!)

I am not just some guy yelling. I am some guy yelling with a bibliography.

FACT	DETAILS
$63.7M	Domestic box office. On a $39 million budget. It opened to $9.2 million on May 17, 1991.
7 WEEKS	How long it stayed in the domestic top ten. It beat Hudson Hawk. I am not going to be rude about Hudson Hawk.
FRANK OZ	Directed it. He is also Yoda and Miss Piggy. He got a movie about a man having a breakdown out of a Muppet guy, which is impressive.
ANNE V. COATES	Edited it. She also edited Lawrence of Arabia. That one got a 4K disc. I am not saying it's a competition. It is a little bit a competition.
SMITH MTN LAKE	Filmed in Moneta, Virginia standing in for New Hampshire, August to November 1990, for the fall leaves. Fall leaves are the exact thing DVD compression destroys.
THE HOUSE	They blew up a 3/4 scale replica on a nearby lot. Somebody built a smaller house just to destroy it. I think about this more than I should.
SONY, 2024	Sony Pictures Home Entertainment now manufactures and distributes Disney's discs, catalog included. So the hard part is already somebody's job.
35 YEARS	Years available for a proper disc release. Proper disc releases: zero. Zero is a number I have trouble with.

☛ BABY STEPS TO A BLU-RAY

You don't try to release the whole movie at once. You set small, reasonable goals. Press the button. Take one baby step with me.

Nobody has taken a step yet. That's fine. That's completely fine.

The actual three steps, for anyone at a studio reading this

1. Scan the negative. One pass at 4K on the original camera negative. This is the only line item with real money attached, and it also preserves the film, which nobody puts in the budget.

2. Hand it to Sony. Authoring, pressing, and retail are already covered under the 2024 agreement. Nothing new gets built.

3. Announce it. Bill Murray catalog sells. Groundhog Day is on 4K right now. This audience has been asking on forums since 2009 with nothing to buy.

GIL — goldfish, travel companion, wears a jar. Gil has no opinion about video formats because Gil is a fish. Gil was in the movie and Gil deserves 2,160 lines like everybody else. Fed 0 times.
